We are Going Green!
We have always felt at one with Mother Nature, so in a bid to save the earth and reduce carbon footprint, we will be putting our used coffee grounds for the taking.
Just bring your own reusable bag to any of our outlets to get your free share. Subject to availability.
Read on for a few "grounds" for going green with us!
1. Make compost
Used coffee grounds are neutral (as opposed to fresh coffee grounds). If you rinse your used coffee grounds, they will have a near neutral pH of 6.5 and will not affect the acid levels of the soil. To use coffee grounds as fertilizer, work the coffee grounds into the soil around your plants. Leftover diluted coffee works well like this too.
2. Absorb odour
That's right, it's not just bamboo charcoal or lemon that have odor-absorbing abilities. Place a bowl of fresh, unused coffee grounds inside problem areas (shoes, the fridge etc.) and leave it for a day or two. The coffee will absorb the odors and leave them smelling fresh.
3. Repel fleas
Your furry friend will love you for this. After shampooing, rub the coffee grounds thoroughly through your pet's coat as your dog stands in the bathing area.
4. Facial Scrub
Mix in 1 tbsp coffee grounds into a small container and pour 2 tbsp olive oil over. Stir to mix. Scoop a small amount into the palm of your hand and gently apply it to your skin using circular motions to scrub it in. You can just apply it to your face or if you are in the shower, you can use the scrub on your whole body.
5. Treat Cellulite
Scrubbing coffee grounds on your skin can reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily. Caffeine stimulates dilation while the scrubbing motion increases circulation, plumping up the skin and making cellulite look less obvious. Plus, coffee grounds contain antioxidants, so they can increase collagen production.
6. Get shiny hair
Brew up an extra-strong pot, let it cool and apply it to your dry, clean hair. Leave it on for at least twenty minutes, then rinse. Keep it up once a week or so for best results.
